Was just reading an announcement which I believe is the first of many similar ones to come out in the near future. Capgemini a leading IT Services vendor launches a Cloud Computing Center of Excellence delivering innovation for the Enterprise market.
Capgemini’s Cloud Computing Center of Excellence will initially have a team of Amazon Web Services trained
professionals located in North America, Europe and India to help clients evaluate and implementAmazon’s current offering; this will evolve as other provider’s cloud computing capabilities mature. The
centre will also offer Cloud Consulting, Development, Migration and Back-up Services.
Capgemini’s new Cloud Computing Center of Excellence will initially focus on three enterprise use cases:
Microsoft Sharepoint in the cloud, Oracle® ERP in the cloud, and Application Development and Testing in the
cloud.
I think this is a great step for cloud computing and specifically for Amazon AWS. For the concept to succeed, greater acceptance in the Enterprise space is very critical aspect. An ecosystem of leading IT Services / Consulting vendors like CapGemini is a very important step in that direction. These vendors among other things will bring a great amount of credibility to the platform & cloud computing in general. Also in many cases these vendors are in close consulting positions with top level IT management within enterprises & they will be able to use this proximity and get the management to consider cloud computing alternatives.
In the case of "SaaS" there is another constituent of the ecosystem that needs to be focused on, this would be organizations which are traditionally have been management consultants or business process or business / vertical specific consultants. As the most likely consumption pattern for SaaS based software is going to be business driven rather than by IT. And these people are in the best position to guide the business groups/departments.
